Coffee & Cats is hiring:

• One full-time team member: 30–40 hours per week
• One part-time team member: 16–20 hours per week

ABOUT THE POSITION

This is an active, hands-on hospitality position. Cats are part of our environment, but most of each shift involves customer service, preparing food and beverages, cleaning, stocking, completing side work, and supervising Kitty Cove visits.

There is very little unassigned downtime. When customer traffic slows, team members are expected to wash dishes, clean, restock, prepare supplies, complete assigned projects, monitor Kitty Cove, or assist with The Emporium. Personal reading, non-work phone use, and extended socializing with coworkers are not part of a scheduled shift.

This position is best suited to someone who enjoys staying busy, notices what needs to be done, and takes initiative without needing continual reminders.  There is room to advance with the company for anyone dedicated to artisan coffee, delicious food, community and cats!

SCHEDULE

Coffee & Cats is open:

Monday–Friday: 7:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 7:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Sunday: 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

We also host occasional evening events, generally Thursday through Saturday.

Applicants must provide their specific, recurring availability. Weekend availability and occasional evening-event availability are required. Schedules are posted in advance, and team members are expected to arrive on time and work every accepted shift. Occasional additional coverage may be requested when another employee is absent.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Greet guests promptly and create a friendly, professional experience
• Take orders and accurately operate the point-of-sale system
• Prepare quality coffee drinks, specialty beverages, and food according to recipes
• Check on guests throughout their visit and thank them when they leave
• Wash dishes and clean counters, equipment, tables, floors, and shared guest areas
• Restock ingredients and supplies without waiting to be asked
• Follow food-safety, sanitation, and cash-handling procedures
• Supervise Kitty Cove visits and clearly explain visitor rules
• Monitor the cats’ safety, health, comfort, and stress levels
• Keep doors and barriers secure and maintain separation between café and cat areas
• Assist with stocking, event setup, and occasional projects at The Emporium
• Communicate with coworkers and complete opening, closing, and shift checklists

THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS JOB

• Is dependable, punctual, and ready to work at the beginning of each shift
• Enjoys active work and does not need to be continually directed
• Remains friendly and attentive during busy or stressful periods
• Accepts instruction and feedback professionally
• Follows recipes and procedures carefully
• Can balance customer service with cleaning and operational responsibilities
• Is comfortable enforcing rules when necessary
• Is comfortable working around cats, fur, and pet dander
• Understands that caring about cats is important, but does not replace completing the other duties of the job

Barista or hospitality experience is helpful, but we are willing to train a dependable person with the right attitude and work ethic.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 16 years old
• Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Ability to stand and walk for shifts of up to eight hours
• Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
• Ability to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and perform repetitive hand movements
• Comfortable working around noise, steam, hot liquids, commercial equipment, and cleaning products
• Must complete paid onsite training, food-handler training, and Humane Society volunteer training

PAY AND BENEFITS

• Base pay: $12–$14 per hour, based on relevant experience
• Tips: Employees typically earn approximately $14–$19 per hour in total compensation, although tips vary
